Welcome to Kalanjali School of Dance
Kalanjali, one of the pioneer and award winning dance schools offers Bharatnatyam and Semi Classical dances for kids of all age groups and adults. The ONLY Bharatnatyam school in the tri-state area that offers examinations to students that are eager to earn a diploma in Bharatnatyam.
Kalanjali has been a strong proponent of fostering Indian culture and heritage by teachings of mythology through dance and spreading knowledge by way of performances. As one of the pioneer Bharatnatyam institutions in the tri-state area, we strive to keep our culture alive and thriving by sticking to our niche. Kalanjali is beyond language barriers and is focussed on the sprirituality of the art form rather than the medium in which it is rendered.
Kalanjali offers classical and semi classical dance classes to students ages 6+ including adults. While the focus is on developing a strong classical base, students are also taught Bollywood songs with a classical/folk twist to develop their versatility. Kalanjali students have participated in various community, fund raising events, competitions held by several indo community organzations.
Students are encouraged to participate in such events because it helps shedding inhibitions that otherwise hinder a childs ability to face a large audience. In addition Kalanjali also partners with SAMVED conservatory that conducts exams annually that test theoritical and practical skills of the students. Students may acquire a diploma or a higher Bachelor of Arts degree in Bharatnatyam.
Kalanjali helps students appreciate great works of poets from different languages using dance as a medium. Students are trained to use dance as a means of relaxation for their mind , body and soul. They advance not only in dance but they also grown into mature, confident, competent individuals with a sense of purpose in life.
Senior students are trained to mentor juniors thereby developing essential leadership skills and in the process aid other kids to learn and grow. Year after year students walk away with their diplomas leaving Kalanjali with pride to start yet another journey.
We have grown to two locations (Kendall Park and Lawrenceville), and the location at Lawrenceville is now managed by some of Sudhaaji's senior students. This, in itself, is the biggest gift as a teacher that the art of Bharatanatyam is not confined to her but has been handed down to the next generation Indian Americans.
